Ideas:

1. Shoot from a low angle
2. Pick the right colors (plate or surface etc...) to enhance your food!
3. Crop it.
4. Use a shallow depth of field.
5. Keep it simple.
6. Focus on the details.
7. Use an abundance of natural light if possible.
8. The more colorful the meal/food the better the shot.
